Cara Freudenberg, Psy.D.
Owner & Licensed Psychologist
I’m a licensed psychologist in Oregon with more than 16 years of experience. I received my Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in psychology from the University of Georgia, and I received my Master of Arts (MA) and Doctorate of Psychology (PsyD) degrees in clinical psychology from the Georgia School of Professional Psychology. I then completed an APA-approved internship at the University of Oregon, University Counseling and Testing Center and a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Denver, Health & Counseling Center.
I’ve worked with a wide range of clients in a variety of different settings, including college counseling centers, an eating disorders treatment program, VA medical centers and women’s clinic, integrated primary care, and group private practice. In 2020, I started my private practice, Phoenix Rising Therapy, LLC.
While I consider myself a generalist, my passion lies in helping people heal from past pain and trauma, with a specialty in EMDR. I offer integrative psychotherapy, adapting interventions to each client’s individual needs and goals and providing evidence-informed and culturally affirming treatment for trauma, anxiety, depression, and related concerns.
Outside of work, I enjoy playing guitar, practicing yoga, riding my electric bike, and spending time with my wife and dog. I moved to Portland from Eugene just over a year ago and am enjoying exploring Portland’s many neighborhoods and amazing array of restaurants.
Phoenix, my canine Therapy Assistant, has been working by my side since I opened my practice. He comes to work with me most days and assists with the therapy process. Oftentimes, he is curled up on the couch napping during sessions, but depending on client preferences, he can be more actively incorporated into therapy, providing emotional support, physical touch, good eye contact, and a calming presence. He is a very good boy who loves his job.
